Business: ‘Iran War’ drags hotel occupancy in ‘Bangkok-Phuket-Phang Nga-Pattaya’ down 10-20% March 25, 2026 | 5:50 — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Hotel occupancy rates in Bangkok, Phuket, Phang Nga, and Pattaya have dropped 10-20% as of March 25, 2026, following over three weeks of conflict in the Middle East. The ongoing Iran war has led to a slowdown in long-haul arrivals from Europe, the US, and the Middle East, with Phuket hotels reporting a notable decline, industry associations said.
Flight Reductions and Booking Patterns in Phuket
The Thai Hotels Association Southern Chapter reported a reduction of about 30 flights per day to Phuket, translating to 5,000 fewer passengers daily. March, typically a shoulder season, saw hotel cancellations drive occupancy down by more than 10% from March 2025’s 76% rate. Despite cancellations, last-minute bookings continued due to Phuket’s diverse customer base, though official survey results are pending. The association expects occupancy in April and May to fall 10-20% compared to last year, when April and May rates were 75% and 59% respectively, with most guests from Asia and Oceania.
