Chinese fraud suspect wanted in China found hiding in Phuket

A Chinese fraud suspect wanted in China was detained by immigration police in Phuket on April 1, following a request from the Chinese Embassy in Thailand. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Wang, was located at a condominium in Patong, Kathu district, and taken into custody, police said. Wang is accused of contract fraud in China, with alleged losses exceeding 1 million yuan, according to Chinese officials.

Details of the Alleged Fraud Scheme

Chinese authorities allege that Wang offered billiard equipment for sale, claiming to have goods in stock, and used shipping videos along with false information to persuade more than 30 victims to sign contracts and transfer funds. After receiving payments, Wang reportedly failed to deliver the products and cut off contact with buyers before fleeing China.

The arrest warrant for Wang was issued by the Ministry of Public Security in Xinmin district, Shenyang, Liaoning province, officials said.

Phuket Arrest and Immigration Proceedings

Thai immigration police confirmed that Wang entered Thailand on a tourist visa, which had not yet expired at the time of his arrest. After approval to proceed, officers tracked Wang to the Patong condominium, identified themselves, and questioned him outside the building.

Wang confirmed his identity and was taken to Phuket Immigration, where he was informed his permission to stay in Thailand had been revoked. He is now being held for deportation proceedings as a foreign national wanted under an overseas arrest warrant.
