The Culture Ministry expressed satisfaction on 29 March as The New York Times highlighted Phuket’s new global image, following the ongoing Thailand Biennale, Phuket 2025. The international contemporary art event, hosted in Phuket since 29 November 2025 and now in its final month, has drawn over 2,413,980 visitors and generated more than 28.97 billion baht in local economic activity.

International Recognition and Economic Impact

The New York Times coverage focused on Phuket’s transformation through art and culture, underscoring Thailand’s growing soft power and cultural diplomacy on the world stage. The Biennale brought together Thai and international artists, who created works reflecting local community stories and identity in public spaces across Phuket.

Officials said the event elevated Phuket’s status as an international art city and provided tangible economic benefits for local communities, businesses, and tourism operators. Revenue included spending from both overnight visitors and day-trippers, as well as international tourists.

Culture Minister Sudapida Thaiseth announced plans to visit Phuket in early April to review the event’s outcomes, meet artists and organisers, and gather feedback for future improvements. The exhibition will continue until late April before the Biennale moves to Rayong for its next edition.
