Dealer, users arrested in dawn raids

Police in Phuket arrested one suspected drug dealer and four users during coordinated dawn raids across Kathu and Patong on March 23. Officers seized 52 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 11 methamphetamine pills, and 2 digital scales during the operation.

Police operation and seized evidence

The raids began at 5:30 a.m., targeting three separate residences located within a 4-kilometre radius. Authorities identified the primary suspect as Somchai Rattanapong, 34, who was apprehended at a rented apartment in Kathu. Three men and one woman, aged 19 to 27, were detained in two Patong flats, each found in possession of small quantities of narcotics. Police also confiscated THB 8,500 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

All five suspects were transported to Kathu Police Station for formal charges under Thailand’s Narcotics Act. Investigators are reviewing mobile phone records to identify additional contacts and possible suppliers. The arrests follow a month-long surveillance operation prompted by community complaints about increased drug activity in the area. Local officials have announced plans for further patrols and public awareness campaigns in affected neighbourhoods.

Court dates for the accused are expected to be set within the next two weeks as police continue to gather evidence.
