Fire on 'speedboat' docked at 'Ao Makham' pier: 5 staff injured, 1 missing — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
A speedboat exploded and caught fire while docked at a private pier near Ao Makham in Phuket at 10:55 a.m. on April 6, injuring five staff members and leaving one missing. Local rescue teams responded to the scene, where CCTV footage captured the moment of the explosion and the rapid spread of flames.
Fire Response and Investigation
Rescue workers provided first aid to the injured employees before transferring them to Vachira Phuket Hospital. The missing staff member, identified as Mr. Komphet Wandee, 23, from Rassada, is still being searched for, officials said.
A fireboat towed the burning vessel away from the pier to prevent the blaze from spreading to other boats. The speedboat, equipped with twin engines, eventually sank and is being recovered for further examination.

Explosion Details and Victims
CCTV at the pier recorded the explosion, which investigators suspect originated in the engine compartment. No tourists were on board at the time; only company staff were present.
The injured include the captain, Mr. Komkrit Arunadech, 30, and three other men and one woman, aged between 22 and 34, from Phuket, Surat Thani, Songkhla, and Trang. Emergency crews attempted to extinguish the fire with portable extinguishers, but the flames spread too quickly for initial efforts to succeed.
