A Chinese national wanted for fraud in his home country was arrested in Patong, Phuket on April 2, police confirmed. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Li Wei, was apprehended at a hotel following a coordinated operation by Thai immigration officers and local police.

Details of the Arrest and Charges

Authorities said Li Wei had entered Thailand on a tourist visa and was staying in Phuket for several weeks before his arrest. He is accused by Chinese authorities of orchestrating an online investment scam that defrauded victims of more than 10 million yuan.

The arrest followed a request from Chinese law enforcement through Interpol channels. Thai police stated that Li Wei will be held in immigration custody pending extradition proceedings.

Officials reported that Li Wei did not resist arrest and was found in possession of multiple mobile phones and electronic devices. Police are examining these items for evidence related to the alleged fraud case.
