A 54-year-old man has been arrested in Rassada, Phuket, after allegedly beating his wife to death with a broom during a drunken altercation at their rented residence, police confirmed on December 19.

Phuket City Police were alerted earlier this week by a hospital in Rassada, which reported that a woman had died shortly after being brought in with severe injuries consistent with assault. Investigators identified the victim as a 51-year-old woman, referred to by authorities as Mrs. Kai. Medical staff noted multiple significant bruises on her body, raising immediate suspicions of foul play.

Police proceeded to the couple’s home in Soi Kingkaew 9, where they found the victim’s husband, Mr. Nuek, still at the scene and reportedly under the influence of alcohol. Officers detained him and recovered a broom believed to have been used in the assault. During initial questioning, Mr. Nuek admitted to police that he and his wife had been drinking together on the night of December 16. He stated that an argument escalated, leading him to strike his wife multiple times with the broom handle before going to bed. The following morning, upon discovering his wife was unresponsive, he called the 1669 emergency hotline to request medical assistance before leaving for work. He later returned to find police at the scene, where he was taken into custody.

Neighbours told police that the couple were frequently seen drinking together and often engaged in loud arguments. They reported that Mrs. Kai had occasionally sought help from nearby residents during previous disputes. According to the neighbours, this incident appeared to be a more severe escalation, tragically resulting in her death.
