Korat Motor Show bustling amid energy crisis; Surin residents bring cash to reserve electric cars, hoping to escape high fuel prices — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Korat’s 37th Northeast International Motor Show opened on March 28 at The Mall Korat, drawing large crowds amid Thailand’s ongoing energy crisis. Surin residents arrived with cash in hand, eager to reserve electric vehicles (EVs) as fuel prices continue to climb, with Phuket buyers also among those seeking alternatives to petrol.
Electric Vehicles Drive Regional Demand
Electric cars emerged as the main attraction, with buyers citing both persistent fuel shortages and rising petrol costs as reasons for switching to EVs. One 66-year-old Surin resident said he traveled across provinces specifically to purchase an electric car, having tracked the expanding range of available models.
The event features more than 30 leading brands, including cars, motorcycles, and EVs, all showcased under one roof. Organizers expect approximately 60,000 visitors between March 28 and April 5, with a target of at least 1,200 vehicle reservations and an estimated economic impact exceeding 1.2 billion baht.
Special promotions include a chance to win fuel vouchers worth over 400,000 baht, alongside various complimentary gifts. The show aims to boost the regional automotive industry by offering exclusive deals and a broad selection for consumers facing energy-related cost pressures.
