A 46-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Thepkrasattri Road in Phuket on the evening of March 23. The incident occurred near the Baan Lipon intersection in Thalang District at approximately 8:15 p.m., according to local police.
Emergency response and road conditions
Rescue workers from Kusoldharm Foundation arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of the emergency call. The victim, identified as Somchai Prasert, was pronounced dead at the site due to severe head injuries. The driver of the white Toyota Fortuner involved in the collision remained present and cooperated with authorities. Traffic in the southbound lanes was reduced to one lane for nearly an hour, causing delays for vehicles traveling toward Phuket Town.
Police investigation and safety measures
Thalang Police officers collected CCTV footage from a camera located 30 meters from the crosswalk. Investigators are reviewing whether street lighting and signage met safety standards at the intersection. Thepkrasattri Road, a major north-south artery spanning 50 kilometers, has recorded 18 pedestrian accidents since January 2025. Local officials stated that recommendations for additional warning lights and barriers will be considered pending the outcome of the inquiry.
Authorities are expected to release preliminary findings from the investigation by March 29.
