Officials assure sufficient water supply for dry season
Officials assure sufficient water supply for dry season — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Phuket authorities confirmed on 24 March 2026 that the island’s water reserves will meet demand throughout the upcoming dry season. The Phuket Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) stated that current storage levels in the Bang Wad, Khlong Kratha, and Bang Neow Dum reservoirs are adequate to supply residents and businesses until the onset of the next rainy season.
Reservoir Capacity and Distribution Plans
Bang Wad Reservoir currently holds 5.2 million cubic metres of water, while Khlong Kratha and Bang Neow Dum contain 2.7 million and 1.9 million cubic metres, respectively. The PWA has scheduled daily monitoring of all three facilities to track consumption and adjust distribution as needed. Water will be prioritised for high-demand zones, including Patong and Chalong, which together account for over 60% of Phuket’s municipal water use. Emergency tanker deliveries remain on standby for any unexpected localised shortages.
Measures to Prevent Shortages and Community Impact
The PWA has implemented a public awareness campaign urging residents to reduce usage by at least 10% during April and May. Major hotels and resorts have received guidelines for water conservation, and large-scale agricultural users have been asked to coordinate irrigation schedules. The Phuket Chamber of Commerce reported that tourism operators are cooperating with these measures to avoid service disruptions. No restrictions on household supply are planned unless daily consumption exceeds 150,000 cubic metres island-wide.
Officials will review supply projections weekly and issue updates if rainfall patterns or consumption trends change.
