Phuket Airport Conducts Full-Scale Emergency Drill “PEMEX 2026”

Phuket International Airport conducted a full-scale emergency drill, “PEMEX 2026,” on April 7, simulating a maritime aircraft rescue operation off the Phuket coast. The exercise began at 2:00 p.m., led by Mr. Teerapong Chuaychu, Deputy Governor of Ranong Province, and drew participation from senior airport executives, government officials, emergency medical teams, and safety agencies across both public and private sectors.

Simulation Structure and Assessment Focus

The drill recreated an aircraft accident at sea, testing every phase of emergency management from initial incident reporting to the transfer of survivors to shore. Key operational zones mirrored international standards, including an Emergency Operations Center for command, a triage area for casualty assessment, a care area for ongoing treatment, and a passenger holding area for supporting travelers and relatives.

Officials said the exercise aimed to evaluate Phuket Airport’s readiness in personnel, equipment, and inter-agency response. Outcomes from the drill will be reviewed and integrated into future operational plans to refine procedures and strengthen teamwork. The airport intends to use these findings to further enhance aviation safety and crisis preparedness.
