Phuket International Airport expects Russian, Chinese, and Indian travelers to underpin tourism during the upcoming Songkran festival, airport officials said on April 8. The airport has announced reinforced security measures and heightened operational readiness to manage the anticipated influx of visitors to Phuket between April 10 and 15.
Flight and Passenger Projections for Songkran 2026
Airport Director Monchai Tahnod stated that approximately 1,800 flights are scheduled over the six-day holiday period, averaging 302 flights daily. This represents a slight decrease compared to last year’s daily average of 312 flights.
Passenger numbers are projected at 291,000, down from 308,000 during Songkran in 2025. Officials attributed the modest decline to instability in the Middle East, rising oil prices, and seasonal shifts as northern hemisphere demand tapers off with the change from winter to summer.
Despite these factors, the airport reports continued strong arrivals from Russia, China, and India. These three markets remain central to Phuket’s tourism sector and are expected to sustain visitor momentum throughout the festival.
