Phuket drivers face crackdown as traffic fines take effect

Phuket drivers are facing stricter enforcement as new traffic fines take effect across the island from April 1, 2026. Police in Phuket began issuing penalties under the updated regulations on Monday, targeting violations such as speeding, illegal parking, and failure to wear helmets.

Increased Penalties and Enforcement Measures

The revised fines include a maximum penalty of 4,000 baht for speeding, up from the previous 1,000 baht limit, according to police officials. Motorists caught running red lights now face fines of up to 3,000 baht.

Officers have set up additional checkpoints at major intersections in Phuket Town and Patong. Authorities said the focus is on reducing accidents and improving road safety, particularly in areas with high tourist traffic.
