Phuket Embraces “Proudly Thai Nationwide” Campaign to Boost Tourism

Phuket Province launched the “Proudly Thai Nationwide” campaign on April 3, inviting locals, officials, and visitors to wear traditional Thai attire at key landmarks. The initiative, led by the Phuket Provincial Cultural Office in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, aims to highlight Thailand’s heritage and support tourism growth in Phuket. Organizers view the campaign as a way to strengthen community-based economic development while showcasing Thai identity.

Community Participation and Cultural Promotion

Government agencies, private groups, and residents gathered at the historic Chartered Bank intersection and Dragon Square, both designated as cultural “check-in points.” Participants wore a mix of traditional and modern Thai outfits, taking photos to symbolize unity and pride in national heritage.

The event attracted Thai and international tourists, many of whom joined the celebration and shared images on social media. Organizers believe this online exposure will amplify the campaign’s message and promote Thai traditions globally.

The campaign aligns with the Ministry of Culture’s vision of using Thai dress as Soft Power to enhance Thailand’s image abroad. Phuket plans to integrate traditional attire into more local events, aiming for a sustainable blend of cultural preservation and tourism-driven economic growth.
