‘Phuket Eye’ rollout to lead Songkran safety campaign
‘Phuket Eye’ rollout to lead Songkran safety campaign — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Phuket authorities will launch the ‘Phuket Eye’ surveillance system as the centrepiece of this year’s Songkran safety campaign, beginning April 1. The city-wide camera network aims to monitor traffic, public spaces, and high-risk areas throughout Phuket during the holiday period, officials said.
Surveillance Network and Safety Measures
The ‘Phuket Eye’ system integrates over 1,000 CCTV cameras installed at key intersections, tourist hotspots, and entertainment districts, according to local officials. Live feeds will be monitored around the clock at a dedicated command centre staffed by police and municipal officers.
Authorities expect the system to help manage traffic congestion and respond quickly to incidents. In addition to surveillance, extra police patrols and road checkpoints are planned for Songkran week.
Officials said the campaign will also focus on reducing accidents and deterring crime, with particular attention to alcohol-related offences and water-splashing zones. Public announcements and digital signage will inform residents and visitors about safety rules and real-time traffic updates.
