Phuket gears up for Songkran

Phuket gears up for Songkran celebrations starting April 10, with local authorities coordinating preparations across the island. The annual festival, known for its water festivities, is expected to draw large crowds to Phuket’s main tourist areas, officials said.

Security and Traffic Measures

Police have announced increased patrols in Patong, Phuket Town, and Kata to manage crowds and traffic flow during the Songkran period. Checkpoints will be set up along major roads to monitor alcohol consumption and reduce road accidents.

Additional CCTV cameras have been installed at key intersections, officials confirmed. Emergency medical teams will be stationed at popular gathering spots throughout the festival.

Public Health and Safety Guidelines

The Phuket Public Health Office is distributing free masks and hand sanitiser at event venues. Organisers are urging participants to avoid high-risk behaviour and to follow designated water play zones.

Local officials said all Songkran events must end by 9 p.m. each night. Waste collection services have been expanded to handle increased rubbish from street parties and public gatherings.
