Phuket Governor pushes real-time fuel tracking tool

Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat on March 24, 2026, announced a new initiative to implement a real-time fuel tracking tool across the island. The project aims to monitor fuel distribution and consumption at all petrol stations in Phuket, targeting increased transparency and efficiency in the sector.

Real-time monitoring system to cover all fuel stations

The proposed tool will connect 57 licensed petrol stations and 12 fuel depots throughout Phuket to a central monitoring platform. Data on fuel deliveries, sales volumes, and storage levels will be updated every five minutes. The system is designed to detect discrepancies and prevent illegal fuel diversion. Operators will be required to submit digital records for every transaction, with automated alerts for irregularities.

Oversight, compliance, and expected outcomes

The Provincial Energy Office will oversee the rollout, with technical support from the Ministry of Energy’s IT division. Training sessions for station managers are scheduled for April 2026, and full compliance is expected by June 1. Authorities anticipate the tool will reduce fuel smuggling and improve tax collection accuracy. The initiative aligns with national efforts to modernize energy sector oversight and follows similar deployments in Chonburi and Songkhla provinces.

Officials will review the system’s effectiveness after the first quarter of operation and consider expansion to marine fuel suppliers.
