Phuket has enough water for 100 days even without more rain; governor accelerates management, assures sufficient supply. — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Phuket has enough water to last 100 days even if no further rain falls, Governor Nirut Phongsitthithaworn said on March 26. The governor assured residents that water supplies remain sufficient as of late March, with about 12 million cubic metres—52% of reservoir capacity—available across the island.
Increased Supply Measures and Water Management
Authorities have accelerated water management by supplementing supplies with 100,000 cubic metres per day from irrigation sources and purchasing additional water from private providers. Phuket’s Provincial Waterworks Authority currently produces around 126,720 cubic metres daily from eight plants. Over 2,647 backup wells, both shallow and deep, have been identified for emergency use, according to the provincial disaster prevention office. Officials have also directed local administrations to compile integrated water data and assess private sector capacity to boost reserves. The ongoing expansion of the Phang Nga–Phuket pipeline and studies on sourcing water from Ratchaprapha Dam aim to strengthen long-term water security. The Southern Meteorological Centre expects seasonal rains to begin by late April or early May, which would further ease supply concerns.
