Phuket was hit by severe flooding following heavy overnight rain, with authorities working urgently on Tuesday morning to drain water from key areas and warning residents and tourists to stay alert as more storms are forecast. The downpours, which began overnight, caused waterlogging in multiple locations across the island, prompting local officials to monitor high-risk zones and coordinate clean-up efforts.

The Kamala Sub-District Administrative Organisation reported at 7am that several spots in Kamala were flooded, including Soi Fantasea, the area in front of the Thiwaratri Hotel, Soi Olalla, Khlong Moo 5, and the intersection near the Kamala Sub-District Administrative Office. While both traffic lanes in these areas were submerged, authorities confirmed roads remained passable to vehicles. The situation led to increased caution among motorists and pedestrians, particularly during the busy morning commute.

Emergency services responded to a road accident near Tops Supermarket in Kamala, where a car collided with an electric pole, causing it to fall onto the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. In a separate incident, a pine branch broke off during the storm and struck a tourist’s car at Kamala Public Park, shattering the front windscreen. Kamala officials quickly inspected the affected areas, cleared debris, and worked with relevant agencies to accelerate drainage in the most impacted zones.

Local authorities have urged both residents and visitors to exercise caution when traveling through waterlogged streets, and to avoid construction sites and canal banks, where water levels remain dangerously high. The Kamala Sub-District Administrative Organisation emphasized the importance of protecting personal safety and property as conditions remain unpredictable.

Elsewhere, the Phuket City Municipality issued a warning for those living along Bang Yai Canal, advising them to closely monitor water levels and prepare for potential flash floods. The latest forecast from the Southern West Coast Meteorological Centre predicts thunderstorms over 70% of Phuket through Wednesday morning, with heavy rain and westerly winds expected to create waves exceeding two metres in storm-affected coastal areas.

For Phuket’s residents and tourists, the flooding has disrupted daily routines and raised concerns over transportation and property safety, particularly in low-lying and canal-adjacent neighborhoods. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and stress the need for vigilance as additional rainfall is likely. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather advisories and to report any emergencies to local officials as the province works to manage the aftermath and prepare for further adverse weather.
