Police Deploy AI Cameras to Arrest French Overstayer
Police Deploy AI Cameras to Arrest French Overstayer — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Police in Phuket used mobile AI-powered facial recognition cameras to arrest a 27-year-old French man who had overstayed his tourist visa by 42 days, authorities said on Tuesday. The operation, conducted on Bangla Road in Patong, marks the first time this technology has been officially deployed in the province.
Mobile Surveillance and Immediate Arrest
Tourist Police officers led a sweep using AI cameras that scanned crowds and cross-referenced faces with immigration records. The system identified the French national, whose Type P.60 Tourist Visa had expired more than six weeks prior.
Officers detained the man at the scene and charged him with remaining in Thailand without valid permission. He was transferred to Patong Police Station for legal processing and deportation.

Broader Integration of AI Policing
Police said the mobile surveillance unit enhances the ability to identify suspects in crowded tourist areas quickly and accurately. The Phuket Express reported that similar technology has been in use for months in Pattaya, where it assists in detecting overstayers and criminal suspects on Beach Road and Walking Street.
Officials described the Phuket deployment as part of a national effort to strengthen law enforcement in areas frequented by tourists. The arrest underscores Thailand’s push to use advanced surveillance tools to maintain public safety and confidence.
