A conscript soldier and his girlfriend were arrested in Phuket on April 6 after a special administrative task force seized more than 200,000 methamphetamine pills in Thalang District. The suspects, accused of trafficking, were apprehended during an undercover operation at a local resort, police said. The primary suspect, identified as “Mr. G,” was allegedly transporting the narcotics from Surat Thani to Phuket.
Undercover Operation and Seizure Details
Officers from the task force, led by Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Rungreung Thimabutr, disguised themselves as a disabled man to approach the drug delivery site undetected. The raid resulted in the discovery of the meth pills packed inside a suitcase at the resort.
The soldier’s girlfriend, also from Chaiya District, was detained alongside him. Both were reportedly recruited by a woman known as “Ms. B” to deliver the drugs.
Ongoing Crackdown and Investigation
Authorities said the suspects admitted to making two previous deliveries while on military leave, earning 10,000 baht per trip. The soldier was scheduled to complete his military service on April 14.
This operation follows a series of recent major drug seizures in Phuket, including hauls of 33,000 and 10,000 meth pills, as well as crystal methamphetamine. Officials credited local informants and community networks for the intelligence that led to the arrests and confirmed that investigations are continuing to target the broader trafficking network.
