Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Nation Group President Chai Bunnag joined the British Embassy in celebrating 170 years of UK-Thailand relations at a ceremony in Bangkok on April 1, 2026. The event, which highlighted long-standing diplomatic ties and future cooperation, also marked the 80th anniversary of the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT), with Phuket’s business community watching closely.

Emphasis on Trade and Innovation

The celebration at Gaysorn Urban Resort served as the finale to a major campaign under the theme “Our Shared History and Future.” Organizers underscored the BCCT’s role as Thailand’s oldest foreign chamber and the largest British chamber in Asia.

Bilateral trade between the United Kingdom and Thailand now stands at £7.7 billion, officials said. The BCCT continues to drive investment and innovation initiatives linking both countries.

Cabinet members, including Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew and Industry Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, attended alongside Chai Bunnag, who met with the prime minister and ministers during the event. The gathering featured formal congratulations and informal discussions among government and business leaders.
