Surin police hold meeting to prepare for reducing road accidents during Songkran festival

Surin police held a multi-agency meeting on April 4 to coordinate efforts for reducing road accidents during the upcoming Songkran festival, with officials connecting via video conference from Nakhon Ratchasima and gathering at Surin Provincial Police headquarters. The initiative aims to strengthen traffic management and accident prevention in the region, which is a key focus during national holidays in tourist destinations like Phuket.

Multi-Agency Collaboration and Safety Measures

The meeting, led by Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sukon Sriarun, included representatives from Surin Highway Police, local disaster prevention agencies, the Department of Land Transport, and private sector volunteers.

Authorities outlined a three-phase control period: pre-intensive from April 3–9, intensive from April 10–16, and post-intensive from April 17–23. Five core strategies were discussed, covering management, road and environmental risk reduction, vehicle safety, safe road user behaviour, and post-accident response.

A public safety campaign under the theme “Drive Safely, Reduce Speed, Reduce Accidents” is scheduled for April 9 at Surin’s government complex. Organisers expect participation from multiple departments and community groups to reinforce safe driving messages ahead of the festival.
