A Thai man is on the run after allegedly shooting his colleague at a warehouse in Phuket’s Mueang district on April 6, leaving the victim in critical condition. Police said the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Prakit, fled the scene after the incident, which took place at the retail store’s warehouse where both men worked as sales staff.
Victim Hospitalised and Police Investigation Underway
The victim, 40-year-old Wirut, sustained gunshot wounds to his body and leg and was conscious but seriously injured when admitted to Mission Hospital Phuket, according to police. Officers were alerted to the shooting by hospital staff.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage showing Prakit approaching Wirut, speaking briefly, then opening fire and chasing the victim before firing another shot and escaping. Police are waiting to question Wirut further once his condition stabilises.
Witness Account and Related Incidents
Wirut’s friend, Jakkrit Panmee, told police he was not present during the shooting. He said Wirut called him for help, prompting Jakkrit to rush to the warehouse, where he found his friend on the ground with bleeding wounds before taking him to hospital.
Police said Jakkrit was unaware of any conflict or motive behind the attack. In a separate case in February, Phuket police arrested a Colombian man for the fatal shooting of an Iraqi national in Patong, with the motive in that case still under investigation.
