Officials said the state Oil Fuel Fund had been covering daily subsidy costs of about 2.5 billion baht, or roughly US$76 million, to keep fuel prices low. This heavy outlay strained the fund’s liquidity, prompting the government to shift a greater share of global price increases to consumers. The latest change represents one of the largest single-day fuel price adjustments in recent years.
