Viral online!! Reports of 7 Indians infected with "Nipah virus" quarantined in a Phuket hospital are fake news: Fact check

Reports circulating online on March 31 claiming that seven Indian nationals infected with Nipah virus were quarantined at a Phuket hospital are false, according to a fact check by local authorities. The Phuket Public Relations Office and health officials confirmed there are no Nipah virus cases or related quarantines involving Indian nationals at any hospital in Phuket.

Official Verification and Preventive Measures

Sanook News coordinated with provincial health agencies and verified that no cases of Nipah virus infection have been reported at Siriroj Hospital or any other medical facility in Phuket. The viral social media posts were found to be fabricated and not based on any official information.

All hospitals in Phuket, both public and private, have confirmed strict adherence to Ministry of Public Health guidelines for screening and prevention. Enhanced screening measures remain in place at Phuket International Airport for travelers from high-risk areas, officials said.

Provincial authorities have also prepared isolation rooms, personal protective equipment, and laboratory testing systems as part of ongoing readiness, but no new Nipah virus cases have been detected. Sanook News emphasized that the false reports did not originate from its official channels and warned against sharing unverified claims.
