One fatality was recorded in Phuket on the first day of the Songkran Seven Days of Danger road safety campaign, according to the Phuket Road and Marine Accident Prevention and Reduction Operations Center. The incident involved a woman who was struck by a car while parked on the roadside in Pa Khlok, Thalang, on April 10, the opening day of the festival’s accident monitoring period.

Traffic Violations and Risk Behaviors
Police documented 639 violations across ten major traffic offenses on the first day of the campaign. Helmet non-compliance accounted for 166 cases, while 31 incidents involved drunk driving.
Authorities highlighted additional risk factors, including drowsy driving and speeding. Officials also directed taxi and public transport drivers to rest adequately and mandated route compliance for jet ski operators.
Tourists were required to wear life jackets, and improvements to nighttime road lighting were ordered at high-risk locations. The campaign combines strict law enforcement with public awareness efforts to reduce casualties during the holiday period.
