Fire Response and Public Health Measures

Officials said the landfill fire remains at emergency severity level 2–3, with accumulated heat causing repeated flare-ups and persistent smoke in surrounding areas. Shifting winds have carried smoke into residential neighborhoods, leading authorities to warn residents to avoid outdoor activities and wear masks outside until conditions improve.

The municipality ordered a halt to all waste deliveries to the Phuket Solid Waste Management Center from April 11–19, or until the fire risk subsides. The landfill’s waste volume has exceeded its safe capacity, limiting the facility’s ability to accept new refuse from across Phuket. Multiple agencies, including local subdistrict municipalities, continue joint efforts to contain and monitor the situation.
