Patong Scandal! Gang of Tourists Beat Thai Man Nearly to Death After Being Stopped from Splashing Water During Songkran — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
A Thai man suffered severe injuries after a group of foreign tourists attacked him on Soi Tan, Phra Metta Road in Patong, Phuket, around 16:00 on April 13, according to a police report filed later that day. The victim, 29-year-old Khunanya Phokham, was reportedly assaulted after he signaled he did not want to participate in Songkran water celebrations while riding his motorcycle.
Assault Escalates After Water Dispute
Witness statements indicate a French male tourist first sprayed Khunanya in the face with water and struck him with a water gun despite Khunanya’s clear refusal. The situation escalated when another foreign tourist approached from behind, pulled Khunanya’s shirt, and punched him, causing him to fall.
Approximately four additional members of the tourist group then joined in, repeatedly beating Khunanya. He sustained serious wounds to his mouth and extensive facial bruising.
Good Samaritans transported the injured man to Patong Hospital for urgent treatment. Police have recorded the complaint, advised a thorough medical examination for legal documentation, and are reviewing CCTV footage in the area to identify and locate the suspects. Investigation teams are collecting evidence as they pursue charges against the group involved.
