Phuket Municipality Urged to Suspend Waste Deliveries Following Landfill Fire – VIDEO

Phuket City Municipality has requested all local administrative organizations and private operators to suspend waste deliveries to the Phuket Provincial Waste Disposal Center from April 11 to 19, 2026, following a landfill fire on April 11. The blaze, which began around 3:00 PM at the provincial waste management facility, led authorities to issue an urgent call for action across Phuket. The primary directive aims to halt the delivery of solid waste while emergency measures are in place.

Fire Response and Emergency Status

Officials classified the incident as a Level 2–3 emergency, signaling the need for immediate intervention. Firefighting teams from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, Wichit Municipality, and Rassada Municipality worked together to contain the flames.

Authorities have confirmed that the fire is now under control and limited to a specific area. Continued monitoring and preventive steps are being taken to prevent the fire from reigniting.

Waste Facility Capacity and Suspension Directive

The waste incinerator’s holding area has reached full capacity, leaving the disposal center temporarily unable to process additional waste from the province. This operational constraint prompted the municipality to issue a directive suspending all waste deliveries until conditions improve.

Municipal officials stated that the suspension is essential for safety and to reduce the risk of further incidents. The facility may resume normal operations before April 19 if the situation stabilizes, and local governments and private operators have been asked for cooperation during the emergency.
