Phuket’s Songkran festival drew large crowds on April 13, with Bangla Road in Patong emerging as the busiest spot for water festivities. Tourists from Thailand and abroad flocked to the area, resulting in severe traffic congestion on main routes such as Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road and Thaweewong Road. Motorists heading into Patong faced travel delays of nearly an hour, and roadside parking quickly reached capacity.

Traffic Management and Safety Measures

Traffic police deployed at key intersections worked to ease congestion as vehicles moved slowly through the main arteries. Temporary road closures were enforced on Bangla Road from midday, barring cars and motorcycles to prioritise pedestrian safety.

Authorities installed additional CCTV cameras and maintained a visible police presence to monitor the dense crowds and deter theft. No incidents of crime were reported during the day, officials said.

Elsewhere in Phuket, early morning merit-making took place at Saphan Hin Park, starting at 6:20 a.m. Water play continued throughout the morning, followed by alcohol-free festivities at Limelight Avenue, Dibuk Road, and the Chalerm Phrakiat 72nd Anniversary Queen’s Park, with the “Songkran No Alcohol Festival Phuket 2026” beginning at 4 p.m.
