Thailand Reports Total of 95 Deaths in Three Days of Songkran Seven Days of Danger Road Campaign

Thailand reported 95 deaths and 486 injuries from 515 road accidents nationwide during the first three days of the Songkran Seven Days of Danger campaign, which began April 10 and includes Phuket. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation released these figures as authorities continued the “Safe Driving, Reduce Speed, Prevent Accidents” initiative through the holiday period.

Accident Patterns and Contributing Factors

On April 12, the campaign’s third day, officials documented 171 accidents, 169 injuries, and 24 deaths. Suphan Buri led in daily accident count with 10 cases, Phrae saw the highest number of injuries at 9, and Bangkok recorded the most fatalities with 3.

Speeding was the leading cause, responsible for 46.20% of incidents, while drunk driving accounted for 24.56%. Motorcycles featured in 77.17% of cases. Most crashes occurred on straight stretches (81.29%), with local roads and highways making up 39.77% and 34.50% of accident sites, respectively.

Regional and Demographic Breakdown

Lampang province recorded the highest cumulative totals for both accidents and injuries over three days, each at 25 cases. Bangkok had the highest cumulative fatality count with 6 deaths.

Young adults aged 20–29 years comprised 22.80% of victims. The peak accident window was between 3:01 PM and 6:00 PM, coinciding with increased travel and social gatherings.

Thirty provinces reported zero fatalities during the period. Compared to the same three-day span in 2025, when 100 deaths occurred, this year’s toll reflects a modest improvement.
