Thailand’s Songkran 2026 festival drew crowds across the country on April 15, with Phuket among the key destinations celebrating the annual event. Record Attendance and Spending at Major Songkran Landmarks
The Tourism Authority of Thailand reported a 6% increase in overall Songkran attendance compared to last year. Of the total, 500,000 foreign tourists were expected, up 4%, generating an estimated 8.1 billion baht in revenue. Thai visitors accounted for 5,963,000 trips, a 7% rise year-on-year.
Bangkok hosted 3,145,215 participants at 94 designated Songkran sites, with Siam Square alone recording 1,096,607 attendees. Other major Bangkok venues included Silom (652,974), ICONSIAM (603,752), Tha Maharaj (298,276), Khao San Road (105,925), and Khlong Toei (75,180).
In Chiang Mai, the Rin Kham–Maya intersection saw over 100,000 festival-goers on April 14, with hotel occupancy reaching 70–80%. Khon Kaen’s famed Khao Niew Road drew more than 50,000 people for its “human wave” event, stretching 1.5 kilometers. The government cited Songkran’s global reputation, with Big 7 Travel naming Thailand the world’s top April destination in 2026.
