Four people died in road accidents across Phuket during the Songkran holiday period ending April 15, according to provincial authorities. Officials reported a total of 67 traffic accidents on the island during the festival, which is celebrated annually across Thailand.
Accident Data and Official Response
Phuket’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation confirmed that, in addition to the four fatalities, 71 people were injured in the reported crashes. The majority of incidents involved motorcycles, with police attributing many of the accidents to speeding and alcohol consumption.
Checkpoints were set up at key locations throughout Phuket as part of a national road safety campaign. Police said they issued 1,215 traffic citations during the holiday, focusing on helmet use, drunk driving, and other violations.
