Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi reported to injure 17 in turbulence

Air India flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi reportedly encountered severe clear-air turbulence on 4 August 2026, injuring 17 passengers and crew members, according to Travel And Tour World.

The Airbus A320neo, carrying 137 passengers and eight crew members, was travelling from Phuket International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport when it allegedly dropped about 300 feet during cruise. The report said the flight crew maintained control and landed safely in Delhi at 11:07 Indian Standard Time.

Travel And Tour World reported that 13 passengers and four cabin crew members underwent medical assessment after arrival. Several were taken to hospitals, including Fortis Hospital and Medanta, for treatment of injuries such as head contusions, cervical strain and pressure-related ear trauma. Five patients were reportedly discharged after precautionary examinations, while others remained under monitoring.

The report said India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation launched an investigation and secured the aircraft's flight data and cockpit voice recorders. The aircraft was also moved to a hangar for technical inspections and data retrieval.
