Anutin congratulates Phuket musician Nene Royal on AGT victory

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has congratulated Phuket musician Nene Royal after her victory in America’s Got Talent (AGT), describing the result as a source of pride for Thailand.

Deputy government spokesperson Ploythalay Laksameesaengjan announced the message on 24 September 2026 while Anutin was on official business in New York. Anutin, who also serves as interior minister, praised Royal’s talent, determination and efforts throughout the competition, according to Ploythalay.

Royal’s AGT campaign began with an audition featuring vocals and lead guitar on The Cranberries’ “Zombie”, which received four yes votes from the judges. In the live quarter-finals, she performed Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” and received a Golden Buzzer from judge Mel B, securing a place in the final.

She competed against nine other acts at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California and performed The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” in the final on 22 September 2026. She was announced as the winner on 23 September, with both dates given in US local time.

Ploythalay said Royal’s achievement demonstrated the potential of young Thais and their ability to take their talents onto the international stage. She also conveyed the government’s thanks to Royal, her family and her supporters.

The government was ready to create more opportunities and spaces for children and young people to develop their abilities fully, Ploythalay added.
