Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul rode a Phuket Provincial Administration Organization EV Smart Bus to Phuket International Airport on May 10 after inspecting action on public beach encroachment in the province. He chose the electric bus instead of traveling with a large motorcade, using the trip to promote public transport as a way to ease congestion and reduce energy use.
EV bus service highlights fare and route network
Officials said one bus can replace 30 to 40 private cars, cutting fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions more effectively than combustion-engine vehicles.
During the ride, Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat reported on progress in areas along the route, allowing the government delegation to review on-the-ground issues in real time.
The PAO’s EV Smart Bus now operates 3 main routes in Mueang District: Saphan Hin-Central Phuket, Ao Chalong-Super Cheap and Ratsada Pier-Andamanda water park.
The flat fare is 15 baht. Students, elderly passengers, monks and people with disabilities ride free.
