Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on May 11 inspected Bang Tao Beach in Cherng Talay, Thalang, and declared a crackdown on mafia influence and illegal land encroachment in Phuket. He said the government would move decisively to restore order in encroached areas, protect natural resources and ensure justice is upheld.

Anutin set out two principles during the visit: there must be no place for shady influential figures, and state officials must not tolerate people who exploit or oppress the weak. The inspection came amid concern over organized groups exerting control over public land and beaches.
Bang Tao inspection focused on public land enforcement
Officials said the visit was aimed at overseeing enforcement against illegal occupation of public land and protecting public spaces. Anutin said there must be no mafia or influential figures controlling the area.
He also said lawful tenants who rented land in good faith would receive assistance as illegal occupation is dismantled. Any solution, he said, must be carried out strictly under the law and without harming the environment.
A scheduled inspection of Freedom Beach was later canceled. Officials said Anutin cut the visit short because urgent duties required his immediate travel to Ranong Province.
