Burglary at Kathu house leaves valuables worth more than B3 million missing
Police said a house in Kathu was broken into while the owner was abroad, with 33 baht-weight of gold bars, 7 baht-weight of gold jewellery and cash worth more than B3 million reported stolen.
A burglary at a house in Passorn Village, Moo 7, Kathu, left valuables worth more than B3 million missing, police said.
Kathu Police were notified of the theft at about 4pm on June 8, when 54-year-old Somsak Pengdis reported that items had been stolen from the property.
Mr Somsak, the younger brother of the homeowner, told police he had been looking after the house while his sibling was living abroad. He said he normally visited the property once a week and had gone there to clean it when he found signs of a break-in.
Police said officers found signs of forced entry at the house. An inspection also found that valuables kept in a wardrobe drawer had been stolen.
According to the police report, the missing property included 33 baht-weight of gold bars, 7 baht-weight of gold jewellery, about B2 million in cash and euros estimated to be worth more than B1 million. The total value of the stolen items is believed to exceed B3 million.
Forensic officers photographed the scene and collected latent fingerprints and other evidence for examination. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from inside the village and along routes leading in and out of the area as they try to identify the suspects.
Police believe the burglars may have targeted the property because it had been left unoccupied for an extended period. The investigation is ongoing.
