CCTV shows alleged souvenir theft by foreign tourist at Phuket Old Town shop
A social media post says CCTV captured a foreign tourist allegedly hiding a souvenir in her bag before paying for a different item at a shop on Thalang Road in Phuket Old Town.
A CCTV camera recorded a foreign tourist allegedly stealing a souvenir from a shop on Thalang Road in Phuket Old Town, according to an Instagram post by CrimeAsia.
The post said a middle-aged woman allegedly placed a miniature flower basket in her bag and then paid only for a miniature Thai house souvenir.
When staff asked about the flower basket, the tourist allegedly said she had bought it from a stall at the front of the business. The cashier then checked with that front stall, which the post said is a branch of the same shop, and found the claim was allegedly false.
The post added that local residents had been warned to remain vigilant because the shopkeeper suspects the same tourist has frequently targeted several shops in the area.
