A Chinese tourist was rescued after a canoe overturned in rough waters near Patong Beach, Phuket, on Thursday afternoon.

A Chinese tourist was rescued after a canoe overturned in rough waters off Phuket near Patong Beach on Thursday afternoon, according to a report by Chiang Rai Times.

Local marine patrol authorities spotted the capsized canoe and launched a high-speed rescue boat. Rescuers threw a flotation device and brought the exhausted tourist aboard.

The tourist suffered no serious physical injuries and was taken to a nearby medical centre for precautionary examinations, the report said.

Marine safety officers urged beachgoers to wear approved life jackets, regardless of their swimming ability or the weather conditions.
