Coin-operated washing-machine theft suspect arrested in Rawai

Police arrested a suspect identified only as “Mr Dick” at a house in Soi Suksomboon, Rawai, on 21 July in connection with alleged thefts from coin-operated washing machines. Officers also seized the motorcycle believed to have been used in the offences.

The investigation began after Chalong Police received a report on 26 June about a break-in involving washing machines within the station’s jurisdiction. Police said CCTV footage showed a suspect arriving by motorcycle, breaking into a machine and fleeing.

Investigators gathered evidence and obtained an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court before locating the suspect at a house in Rawai. Police said he escaped through the back of the property during the first attempt to arrest him.

Acting on information from an informant, officers returned to the house on 21 July, surrounded the property and blocked possible escape routes. According to police, the suspect tried to run after opening the front door but was chased and arrested.

Police said the suspect confessed during questioning to two thefts involving coin-operated washing machines. He remains in custody while legal proceedings continue.
