A juvenile spinner dolphin was rescued after becoming stranded on the shoreline in front of a beach resort in Sakhu, Thalang on April 20, officials confirmed. The Siritharn Rare Marine Animal Rescue Center responded to a local resident’s urgent call, finding the female dolphin in a weakened state. The animal, measuring 175 centimeters and weighing 26.5 kilograms, was identified as a spinner dolphin (Stenella longirostris) and received immediate veterinary care in Phuket.
Dolphin’s Condition and Ongoing Care
Veterinary staff documented visible abrasions along the dolphin’s side, likely caused by contact with the sand during stranding. The dolphin was dehydrated, had low blood sugar, and showed signs of a suspected infection, specialists said.
Marine veterinarians stabilized the animal’s vital signs and began treatment for dehydration and infection. Rescue personnel are providing 24-hour monitoring at the Siritharn Center to track recovery and deliver ongoing support.
Officials noted that the rapid report from the local resident enabled a timely rescue. Authorities emphasized the importance of public vigilance in safeguarding marine wildlife along Phuket’s coastline.
