Driver charged after drug-positive crash at Chalong Circle

A driver has been charged with drug-impaired driving and negligent driving causing property damage after a three-vehicle crash at Chalong Circle in Phuket on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

The collision occurred at about 9:05am on Wiset Rd, where traffic was waiting to proceed through the roundabout. CCTV showed a yellow sedan hitting the rear of a white sedan, which was pushed into a pickup truck ahead of it, according to Chalong Police.

The impact sent the yellow sedan rolling onto its roof before it landed on the median and came to rest on the road. Police said the driver tested positive for methamphetamine, known in Thailand as ya ba, and was being detained at Chalong Police Station.

Pol Lt Col Jaruwit Phoncharoen said the driver faced charges of driving under the influence of drugs and negligent driving causing damage to property. He did not identify the driver.

No one was injured, police said. The three vehicles had been removed from the scene by about 11:30am, with insurers handling the resulting claims.
