Elderly motorcyclist dies after being run over by truck in Mai Khao
A 78-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a crash involving a minibus and a truck on Thepkrasattri Road in Mai Khao, with police still investigating the circumstances.
A 78-year-old motorcyclist died in a road crash on Thepkrasattri Road in Mai Khao on Thursday morning, police said.
Tha Chatchai Police were notified of the fatal accident at about 8am. The crash happened on the outbound lanes of Thepkrasattri Rd, about 100 metres north of the old airport intersection.
Pol Lt Apisit Petchchawang, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Tha Chatchai Police Station, went to the scene with officers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation.
Police found the body of Hasan Tangam, 78, lying beside his Honda Wave motorcycle. Also at the scene was a Hino truck with Krabi licence plates driven by Prawit Rodthong, 34.
According to the initial police investigation, Mr Prawit told officers he had been driving normally when Mr Hasan's motorcycle struck the rear of a minibus travelling ahead. The impact reportedly caused the rider to lose control and fall into the path of the truck, where he was run over by one of its wheels.
Mr Prawit said he realised an accident had occurred behind his vehicle and stopped immediately to check, finding the motorcyclist dead at the scene.
Investigators documented the scene and gathered evidence. A forensic examination was carried out with doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital.
Mr Hasan's body was later transferred to Thalang Hospital while police contact relatives and continue their investigation. Police said responsibility for the collision has not yet been determined because the minibus that Mr Hasan reportedly struck was not stopped at the scene.
