A 57-year-old Filipino man died after a truck struck his motorcycle from behind at a pedestrian crossing on Thepkrasattri Road in Thalang, Phuket, police said.
The man was identified as Oscar Nedroda Deladia. Thalang Police said the crash occurred at about 5pm on Wednesday, October 7, on the southbound lanes in front of the Shell petrol station at Mueang Mai.
Police said Deladia was riding a black-and-red Honda Click 125, registered in Nakhon Si Thammarat, and had stopped at a traffic signal while pedestrians used the crossing. A Phuket-registered Mitsubishi non-scheduled transport truck then approached from behind and hit the motorcycle. The truck driver failed to brake in time, police said.
Deladia, who was wearing a safety helmet and had a valid driving licence, died at the scene. Police said the truck driver pulled over after the collision but later fled.
Officers photographed and mapped the crash site and coordinated a forensic examination of the body. The Phuket Provincial Police Forensic Science Centre was also asked to examine evidence. Police said the investigation is continuing to identify and locate the driver and establish the circumstances of the crash.
