Fire damages rental room on Patong Hill, no injuries reported
Pol Lt Col Wattanathon Bamrungthin, an investigating officer at Kathu Police Station, received a report of the fire at about 6:40am.
A fire damaged a rental room on Patong Hill in Phuket early on May 18, with Kathu police receiving the report at about 6:40am. The blaze broke out in Room 14 of a single-storey rental row house in Soi Sao Roman, off Phra Baramee Rd in Moo 6, Kathu, and firefighters contained it before it spread to nearby rooms.
No injuries were reported.
Tenant timeline and police investigation
Tenant Kochakorn Sirikul, 45, told police the electricity in the building went out at about 3:30am. She said she left her room at about 5:38am to buy items at the 7-Eleven at the PTT petrol station on the downhill side of Patong, about 260 metres away.
When she returned at about 6:20am, firefighters were already working to extinguish the blaze in her room. The room sustained damage, while adjoining units were protected because crews brought the fire under control quickly.
Pol Lt Col Wattanathon Bamrungthin, an investigating officer at Kathu Police Station, handled the case after the report was received. Police said the extent of the property damage is still being assessed.
Investigators have coordinated with forensic police to examine the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
