Phuket Marine Police arrested five boat crew members after random drug screenings at a local pier in Phuket, authorities said.
The operation was part of a crime suppression sweep at the province’s main pier and surrounding marine tourism areas. Police said the effort was aimed at strengthening safety and public confidence among visitors.
During the sweep, officers carried out random drug tests on boat crew members and pier workers. Police said the operation produced five separate cases involving methamphetamine use, which is classified as a Category 1 narcotic under Thai law.
According to authorities, urine tests confirmed the presence of illegal substances in all five cases, and the suspects confessed to the charges.
The suspects were transferred to investigators for legal action. Police said the screenings were part of ongoing measures to keep Phuket’s ports and marine tourism zones secure for workers and international travelers.
