Five Omani tourists injured as tuk-tuk overturns on Patong Hill
A tuk-tuk overturned on Patong Hill at 8:18pm, leaving five Omani tourists with minor injuries and prompting a negligent driving charge against the driver.
Five Omani tourists suffered minor injuries after a tuk-tuk overturned on Patong Hill on Tuesday night, police said.
Patong Police investigator Lt Col Chanarong Prakongkuea said the crash happened at 8:18pm on Phra Baramee Rd at a curve on the hill. Officers arriving at the scene found a yellow Daihatsu tuk-tuk lying on its side in the outbound lane from Patong toward Kathu.
The driver, Ekarin Jarujinda, 54, told police he was taking five Omani tourists from Phuket Town to a hotel in Patong when he lost control while negotiating the steep curve, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Police identified the injured passengers as Sulaiman Said Sulaiman Al Mamari, 19; Faisal Ali Sulaiman Al Mamari, 21; Faris Sulaiman Hamdan Al Jahwari, 24; Salim Ali Sulaiman Al Mamari, 23; and Sulaiman Ali Sulaiman Al Mamari, 29.
Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation rescue workers gave first aid at the scene. No fatalities were reported.
Police documented the crash site as evidence and filed an initial charge against Ekarin of negligent driving causing injury to others and property damage. Alcohol and drug test results were pending as the investigation continued.
