Five Russian men were arrested after a late-night street brawl on Ratsada Road in Phuket’s Talat Yai subdistrict on May 10, police said. Officers were called at about 12:50 a.m. after reports that intoxicated men were attacking Thais and other foreigners near Midtown Walking Street in the city centre.
Witness video showed the men behaving erratically and chasing people through the area before bystanders stepped in to stop the violence. Phuket City Police later detained the group for legal action.
Police identify suspects and confirm investigation
Pol Lt Sumet Petchruangthong said the disturbance was reported in front of Krungsri Ayutthaya Bank. The five men were identified as Iurii Bilekko, Anton Sabitov, Ivan Asanov, Evgenii Iakushev and Vitaly Maslovskiy.
One alleged victim said a woman seen in the footage may have triggered the confrontation. Police Colonel Chatree Chukaew is overseeing the investigation.
The incident caused panic among people in the area during the overnight disturbance. The suspects remain in custody.
